Shaun Batt: Leyton Orient striker could be out for season

Leyton Orient striker Shaun Batt could be out for up to four months with a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old, who has scored nine goals in 26 appearances this season, sustained the injury in the 2-1 win at Gillingham on Boxing Day.

"He has torn his hamstring quite badly," O's manager Russell Slade told BBC London 94.9.

"We don't know at this moment whether it will need surgery or not. He couldn't have done much more to it."

He continued: "You're probably writing Shaun off for the majority of the season, if not all of it."

Orient are also currently without top scorer David Mooney, who has scored 15 goals this season, because of a foot injury.

"David Mooney will not be so long," Slade said. "We are still hoping the middle of January, maybe a bit earlier.

"It all depends on when the surgeon says he can start his work and then how much Dave can take the pain of the fractures in his foot."

Orient slipped off the top of League One despite drawing 1-1 at Wolves on Sunday and Slade is eager to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window.

"Oh yes, we have a big shopping list," he added.

"It is important still to bring in the right characters and the right type that we think are going to buy into what we are doing at the football club. That is the difficult bit."
