Blackburn's Jordan Slew makes winning Ross County debut

Jordan Slew made his debut on loan from Blackburn Rovers in Ross County's win over Inverness, with Evangelos Ikonomou poised to return to the Dingwall club.

Greek defender Ikonomou left County to join Veria in his homeland in the summer and is awaiting international clearance for a return.

Slew's clearance came hours before the 2-1 victory over Caley Thistle.

And Cardiff City midfielder Filip Kiss was also at Caledonian Stadium pending a possible switch to County.

But a bid to take Manchester City goalkeeper Eirik Johansen on loan has fallen through, with County manager Derek Adams insisting he is not looking at any alternatives for that position at present.

"That deal's dead unfortunately," Adams told BBC Scotland. "We haven't been able to come to an agreement."

The 26-year-old Ikonomou joined County last January after leaving Atromitos and made 18 appearances during their debut season in Scotland's top flight.

He returned to Greece to sign a one-year deal with Superleague club Veria but is now expected to be back in the County side on Saturday against St Johnstone.

"We are just waiting for international clearance," said Adams. "It didn't go through this morning, but obviously Jordan's did."

Former England Under-19 international Slew, who has been loaned to County until the end of the season, had joined Blackburn from Sheffield United for £1.1m in 2011.

However, the 21-year-old has only scored once since leaving the Blades and being loaned out to Stevenage, Oldham Athletic and Rotherham United.

The 23-year-old Kiss, a former Slovakia Under-21 midfielder, joined Cardiff from Slovan Bratislava in 2012 after a successful loan spell in Wales.

He fell out of favour under Malky Mackay last season and has not made any appearances this term under Cardiff's now-departed Scottish manager.

"We are very busy just now and looking to take in other players and we're hopeful that we can have that maybe by Saturday's game against St Johnstone," said Adams of possible additions to his squad.

"We're at home to St Johnstone on Saturday and have a few injured bodies in that dressing room because of the nature of the game, but we'll wait to see how they are for Saturday."

Adams was delighted with his side's display, which ended a run of 10 games without a victory and six straight defeats, saying he thought the addition of Slew had given his players a lift.

"It was a very good performance from us," he said. "To go 2-0 up in any derby is very good and I thought we had a lot of exceptional players on the park.

"We knew we could come here and cause them problems. We won the last derby game at home and have won the first one of the new year, which is vitally important.

"It is a massive three points, because any derby win is."
