Kilmarnock: Allan Johnston delighted by upturn in results

Kilmarnock manager Allan Johnston reflected on a highly satisfactory Christmas and New Year following the 2-1 defeat of St Mirren.

Kris Boyd's stoppage-time goal secured Killie's third win in four matches.

"You just need to look at the festive period, that's nine points out of 12 and we've got to make sure we build on that," said Johnston.

"There were lots of chances at both ends but we just shaded it second half with the amount of chances we created."

Johnston praised the attacking endeavours of both sides as well as his young players Craig Slater and Robbie Muirhead.

"To be fair, both teams went for it," added Johnston, who was frustrated by a lack of points earlier in the campaign.

"We're just delighted to finally get the points.

"The boys have had confidence. Sometimes when you're getting beat you can see a lack of confidence and they don't want to get the ball.

"But they've still been looking to get on the ball, still trying to pass it and we've not been far away so it's good to see the results are finally coming.

"We know we've got good players. We know we're not the finished article either, we've got a long way to go. We need to improve a lot to be where we want to be but we're getting there slowly."
