Defender Adam Buxton has joined Burton Albion on a month's loan from Championship side Wigan Athletic.

The 21-year-old, who was captain of Wigan's development squad last season, can play anywhere across the back four.

Manager Gary Rowett said: "Adam is a player we have liked for some time and we tried to sign him during the summer.

"We watched him for about 18 months and really liked what we saw. He is a player that I know will be able to cope with the demands of this league."

Buxton has signed in time to be involved in Burton's FA Cup third-round trip to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday and could act as cover for Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, who has broken his cheekbone.

"He is a big lad and can play in a number of positions across the defence," added Rowett.

"At the moment, with one or two injuries, it was important that we got someone in to add to the numbers at the back."
