Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens has signed an 18-month contract at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Wellens originally moved to Rovers on a short-term deal after his contract with Leicester was cancelled by mutual consent last July.

In September, the 33-year-old signed a four-month contract, and has gone on to make 24 appearances this season.

Rovers chief executive Gavin Baldwin said the news, external was "a clear signal of the owners intent for the future."

A former Manchester United trainee, Wellens has also played for Blackpool, Oldham and Ipswich, as well as Leicester.

This is his second spell with Doncaster, for whom he made nearly 100 appearances between 2007 and 2009.
