Chester: Neil Young and club part company by mutual consent

Conference Premier club Chester FC have parted company with manager Neil Young by mutual consent.

Chester are currently in the division's relegation zone, after only four wins from 25 games so far this season.

"Both parties felt that, at this point in time, it is in the best interests of the club and the manager, to part company," said a club statement.

Gary Jones has been put in charge as caretaker manager while a replacement for 39-year-old Young is sought.

The club are now inviting applications for the role, but have imposed a deadline of 15;00 GMT on Saturday.

Former Colwyn Bay boss Young became Chester FC's first manager in May 2010, after previous club Chester City were liquidated two months earlier.

Under his leadership, the side gained three successive promotions to reach the top tier of non-league football last season.

"There is not a single Chester supporter who would not join us in stating that Neil Young has earned a genuinely historic place in the life of our club," said club chairman Tony Durkin.

"We will treasure the last three years and the success, and joy that his teams have brought us. He helped us rediscover our passion for our club and we will be forever grateful."
