Glentoran and Coleraine draw 1-1 at a rain-soaked Oval

Glentoran and Coleraine shared the spoils in the Premiership clash at the Oval as Aaron Boyd's goal cancelled out Ruairi Harkin's first-half strike.

Harkin fired Coleraine ahead on 12 minutes after good work by Gareth Tommons and David McDaid.

The Bannsiders also had two penalty shouts turned down as they bossed the first half.

However, Glentoran improved and Boyd netted from close range on 56 after a Curtis Allen shot had hit the woodwork.

Former Derry City favourite Harkin struck Coleraine ahead on 12 minutes with a superb low finish after McDaid had teed up Tommons' cross.

As Glentoran attempted to make a quick response, Coleraine keeper Eugene Ferry made a fine save to deny Jordan Stewart while Allen then fired a half-chance wide.

However, Coleraine were the more productive team in the opening period and they were aggrieved that referee Raymond Hetherington turned down two penalty appeals after McDaid had been bundled over and Tommons then collided with Elliott Morris.

But Glentoran fought back after the break and they levelled the contest on 56 minutes as Boyd tapped in from close range after Allen's shot had come back off an upright.

Shortly after the equaliser, impressive Coleraine keeper Ferry made a fine save to deny Glentoran's John McGuigan.

However, Coleraine continued to look dangerous and Harkin blasted a chance wide while McDaid then failed to find unmarked Joe McNeill as the Bannsiders produced a quick break.

Both teams continued to chase a winner, but both keepers made a couple of fine late saves to keep the scoreline at 1-1.
