Belfast Giants maintained their 17-point lead at the top of the Elite League after a 2-1 overtime win at Braehead Clan on Saturday night.

Dustin Whitecotton was Belfast's hero, scoring with 1:33 left in sudden death as Paul Adey's side recorded a 14th victory from their last 15 games.

Ash Goldie put the Scots ahead at 17:06 in the first period.

But the Giants weren't behind for long, with Jeffrey Szwez equalizing at 18:44 for his 23rd goal of the season.

Both netminders - Stephen Murphy of the Giants and the Clan's Kyle Jones then combined to keep the forwards quiet for the rest of regulation.

With a point secured it was Whitecotton who ended the game and notched another road victory for the Giants.

The Dundee Stars moved into second place on their own with a 4-3 win over Edinburgh Capitals.
