Albion Rovers 2-0 Stenhousemuir

Albion Rovers reached the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup for the first time in 80 years after beating Stenhousemuir.

Having stunned Premiership side Motherwell in the previous round, League Two Rovers were keen to take another scalp.

Ross McMillan's headed own goal edged the hosts ahead in the first half.

Gary Phillips fired a second for John Ward's side after the break and League One Stenny could not recover.

Sean Higgins did have a late chance to reduce the visitors' deficit, but his effort came back off the crossbar.

Albion Rovers manager James Ward: "It's been a long time coming - 80 years is a long time not have achieved that.

"By no means a classic game but it was a thoroughly deserved result.

"It gives a huge lift to everyone involved. Most people would associate Albion Rovers with a negative side of things, and Coatbridge itself as well.

"There are a lot of people here with great ideas to take it forward and days like this help people appreciate how much work we put in and where we want to go.

"There's nothing like a run in the Cup. We all love a dream. We all wonder where it's going to take us.

(Jokingly) "Now that Aberdeen have taken Celtic out the way it smoothes our path to the final.

"I know the chairman wants us to go into Europe so he'll be wanting a home draw to make sure we get to the semi-finals.

"We are here, I want to enjoy today and what we've achieved and we'll see what the draw brings."

Stenhousemuir caretaker manager Brown Ferguson: "We never asked enough questions of Albion Rovers. They got the early goal and did what they needed to do to hang on.

"They defended well and we congratulate them and wish them all the best in the next round.

"We created chances and hit the bar and what have you but we never created enough and that is the most disappointing thing.

"It's a dejected changing room.

"You want to step off the park thinking that we gave it our best and we are disappointed that we didn't give ourselves the best chance possible.

"We look to next week and there needs to be a reaction from every single player."
