Swansea City have confirmed assistant manager Morten Wieghorst has been relieved of his duties.

Boss Michael Laudrup was sacked on Tuesday, with club captain Garry Monk put in charge for Saturday's match against rivals Cardiff City.

Fitness coach Oscar Garcia and overseas scout Erik Larsen have also left their positions.

"The club would like to thank them for their services," Swansea said in a statement.

Laudrup appointed former Denmark and Celtic midfielder Wieghorst as his assistant in February 2013.

Wieghorst, who left his position as Denmark Under-21s manager to join the Swans, played a key role in Laudrup's backroom team and helped Swansea win their first major trophy, the Capital One Cup in 2013.

The Swansea City Supporters' Trust, which has a 20% shareholding in the club, has backed the decision to part company with Laudrup and has called on all supporters to get behind Monk and the team.

"There has inevitably been a mixed reaction amongst fans to the announcement, with the club facing a critical period of key matches in three major competitions," said Trust chairman Phil Sumbler.

"However, we know that the board has not taken this decision lightly, particularly in such an important week for the club, and it's vital that we now all pull together to give the team our full support.

"We all want to see an upturn in results and what better place to start than at the Liberty Stadium against Cardiff City."
