Blackpool: Barry Ferguson 'has stomach for dogfight'

Caretaker boss Barry Ferguson concedes Blackpool are now in a battle to stay clear of relegation after their winless run was extended to 15 league matches.

The Seasiders are 18th in the Championship table after a 2-1 home defeat by Birmingham City on Saturday.

"We're in a dogfight. It's as simple as that," ex-Scotland midfielder Ferguson, 36, told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"I've got the stomach, the fight and the determination. I'd like to think they [the players] are the same."

Under previous boss Paul Ince, Blackpool led the Championship in the early weeks of the season and were firmly in the play-off places after beating Sheffield Wednesday at the end of November - their last win in any competition.

Ferguson has been in temporary charge since Ince was sacked on 21 January. But, as yet, the former Scotland captain has been unable to halt Blackpool's slide.

Defender Kirk Broadfoot added: "There's some quality players in there and we're all in it together.

"We're all disappointed. We've worked so hard all week and over the last few games we've had some good performances. We had a good performance there but we had a sloppy 30 minutes and we've ended up losing the game."
