Two free-kicks from Mark Prenter helped Championship Two outfit Queen's University secure a place in the Irish Cup semi-finals by beating Bangor.

Prenter struck a 25-yard curling effort into the top corner on 25 minutes but Colin Nixon slid in at the back post to equalise five minutes later.

Prenter's fantastic free-kick off the underside of the bar on 58 made it 2-1 and James Ferrin added a penalty on 84.

Bangor's Andy Hall was red-carded and Jordan Forsythe netted a late penalty.

The last eight tie at The Dub pitted the third placed team in Championship Two against the side who lie third in Championship One.

Bertie Fulton blasted over the bar for Queen's, before Prenter converted the first of his spectacular free-kicks.

Nixon's leveller brought the Seasiders back into the contest, while Dominic Melly was denied by Declan Brown.

Prenter nudged the students ahead again and when Ferrin fired his spot-kick into the top corner, the outcome looked inevitable.

After Hall's dismissal, Forsythe scored a late consolation penalty for Garth Scates's visitors.

Queen's will face Ballymena United in the last four, with manager Peter Thompson promising that his side will play "their usual style of football, with no fear at all".
