Cardiff City: Solskjaer does not expect sanction over bonus offer

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he does not expect Cardiff City to be punished over its player-bonus offer.

Malaysian owner Vincent Tan offered the squad a £3.7m bonus to avoid relegation before the 1-0 defeat by Tottenham.

Cardiff withdrew the offer when it was made clear it was in breach of Premier League rules.

"We have spoken to the Premier League and they know the situation and I don't think there will be a problem," said Solskjaer.

The Premier League asked Cardiff City for their observations after Tan's offer came to light on Tuesday.

The 1-0 defeat at White Hart Lane left the Bluebirds in 19th place - three points behind 17th-placed West Brom having played a game more.

But Solskjaer downplayed the significance or impact of Tan's actions on his players and their bid to stay in the Premier League.

"Whether he offered this, that or the other is completely irrelevant," said Solskjaer.

"For the players, they just saw someone who wants us to succeed. He is the owner of the club and he wants to be successful, which is great, and he came to show he was backing them.

"He did great, when he was stood on the chair and talked to them. Brilliant.

"He was there to encourage the lads, back the team because he is behind us and we are here to get the job done.

"He was there to rally everyone, I invited him to come. He is not like many people say.

"We showed unity and that is what you have to show to the players, and that we are all in this together."

The bonus promise was made before Sunday's 1-0 defeat by Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Cardiff face fellow relegation strugglers Fulham at the Cardiff City stadium on Saturday.
