Chuks Aneke's brace helped pull Crewe out of the League One relegation zone for the first time in five games as they overcame Gillingham.

Aneke struck his first from close range before Amine Linganzi headed home his first Gillingham goal to level.

After the break, Aneke headed in Matt Tootle's delivery for his 16th goal of the season to put Crewe ahead.

Mathias Pogba sealed all three points for the Railwaymen late on with a cool flick from only six yards.

The win means Crewe jump three places to 19th and are now two points clear of the relegation zone.

Gillingham manager Peter Taylor told BBC Radio Kent:

"There didn't seem to be enough energy. I know there were a few things that didn't go our way but I'm not convinced we deserved them to today.

"I can't really understand it because at eight minutes to three, when the boys are ready to go, they look as if they are going to start well but unfortunately it wasn't meant to be."
