Irish Premiership: Glens hit late three goals to beat Mallards

Glentoran guaranteed their top-six finish in the Premiership as two late Fra McCaffrey goals helped secure a comfortable win over Ballinamallard.

Jason McCartney cleared a Johnny Addis effort off the line in the first half while Danny McKee also hit the Mallards woodwork before the break.

As the Glens continued to dominate, Curtis Allen fired them ahead on 74.

McCaffrey's cross flew straight into the net on 89 and he poked in Glentoran's third goal on 93.

Jordan Stewart's enterprise helped Glentoran boss the opening period.

The Glens looked set to take the lead when Jay Magee flicked on a Stewart cross into Addis's path but the shot was cleared off the line by McCartney.

McKee then fired against the woodwork while Jim O'Hanlon missed a further great chances as the Glens failed to make their dominance tell before the break.

Mallards keeper Alvin Rouse denied Stephen McAlorum after the break but the Glens did take the lead on 74 with Allen turning superbly to fire home after taking the ball with his back to goal.

The Glens doubled their advantage a minute from time as McCaffrey's cross somehow evaded both Steve Feeney and keeper Rouse.

McCaffrey struck Glentoran's third goal from close range three minutes into injury-time.
