Braintree Town: Tackle on Bernard Mensah angers Alan Devonshire

Braintree boss Alan Devonshire has said striker Bernard Mensah was the victim of a "scandalous" tackle against Lincoln City and will be assessed.

Tom Miller was booked for his challenge on Watford loanee Mensah, 19, in Tuesday's 2-0 win for the Imps.

"It's a scandalous tackle and a young kid's career. I'm sorry, I'm fuming about it," Devonshire told BBC Essex.

"It's near enough broken the kid's leg. I've got a kid now being taken to hospital."

Mensah joined the Iron on loan in January and has two goals in nine appearances for the Conference Premier side.

He will now have tests on his knee following the tackle in the second half, with Devonshire feeling that referee Daniel Cook failed to protect his player.

"The football match doesn't matter to me. We lost a game, that doesn't matter to me," he said.

"That boy's career is more important. A tackle like that is horrendous. There is no room for it in football.

"And until referees start protecting people this will carry on, especially at this level."

Midfielder Miller said on Twitter: "Hope the Braintree lad is fine!! I never would intend to hurt anyone, I wear my heart on my sleeve. But anyway buzzing with 3 points."
