A late John Akinde goal helped play-off chasing Alfreton Town earn a point at home against Welling United.

Welling took the lead when Quade Taylor scored his first goal for the club from Jamie Day's corner before Nick Fenton levelled with a header.

After the break, Lathanial Rowe-Turner brought down Ross Lafayette, who converted the resulting penalty.

Alfreton then equalised again midway through the second half when Akinde struck from distance.

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law told BBC Radio Derby:

"Mistakes have cost us again, I've been saying for the past couple of weeks you've got to cut the mistakes out.

"We cant continually keep making mistakes and we've done that again today.

"I thought we really passed the ball well today. I thought we really did well until we got to the front then it didn't quite happen for us.

"We came out second half and started off well again and then we've given a poor goal away, and then all of a sudden we make a couple of changes.

"I think Danny Meadows came on and injected a bit of life and enthusiasm up front for us. I think we were the only team trying to win it, and look more likely to win it. They were only going to win it on the break or a mistake from us. "
