FA Vase 2014: Sholing's Kevin Brewster targets Wembley glory

Sholing defender Kevin Brewster is hoping for FA Vase redemption when they take on West Auckland in Saturday's Wembley final.

Brewster, 31, was left out of the squad for his old club Winchester City's Vase final at Birmingham City in 2004.

And Brewster hopes he can put that disappointment behind him at the weekend.

"Fingers crossed I can get on and play the best I can and pinch a goal," he told BBC South Today.

"It's coming towards the end of my career, the legs are struggling a little bit. It's a big game and a massive thing for me just to be there and involved with the squad. Hopefully we can get a win and will be an experience I remember for a long time and will be the biggest achievements."

Brewster - or Mr Brewster on schooldays - balances life as a non-league footballer, with a full-time job teaching sport at at Blackfield Primary School.

Sholing, who have just won the Wessex League title, are ranked as second-favourites for the Vase final on Saturday, against their opponents from County Durham, who also reached Wembley in 2012.

But Brewster says the side who amassed 104 points and scored 134 points this season will not be intimidated.

"It might be a bit nervous walking out and the warming up but once that game starts we'll be focused on the game and won't worry about anything around us," he said.

"We've had a lot of support over the past few games and the stature of the club has grown.

"We are not too worried about them, as long as we put in 100% and try our best hopefully it will go our way."
