Managerless Blackpool have released 17 players, including former caretaker player-boss Barry Ferguson.

The 36-year-old was placed in charge following the sacking of Paul Ince in January and led the side to safety.

Among those also leaving are Kirk Broadfoot, Michael Chopra, Robert Earnshaw, Elliot Grandin, Nathan Tyson and Tony Warner.

Eight players, including goalkeeper Matt Gilks and striker Ricardo Fuller, have been offered new deals.

The other players to be offered new contracts are Chris Basham, Neal Bishop, Craig Cathcart, Angel Martinez, Tony McMahon and Isaiah Osbourne.

The Championship club have also previously offered a new deal to England Under-21 winger Thomas Ince, who ended last season on loan at Crystal Palace, but he is expected to leave.

Also departing the club are Louis Almond, Anderson Banvo, Jake Caprice, James Caton, Adam Dodd, Nathan Eccleston, Mark Halstead, Faris Haroun, Chris Kettings and Liam Tomsett.

Midfielder Tom Barkhuizen will be staying after Blackpool activated the one-year option in his contract.

The Seasiders ended the season in 20th position, only two points clear of relegation.
