Paul Jones: Portsmouth sign former Crawley goalkeeper

Portsmouth have signed goalkeeper Paul Jones on a three-year deal.

Jones, 27, was released by Crawley in May having started all 51 competitive games for the Red Devils in 2013-14.

The keeper began his career at Leyton Orient and had spells at Exeter and Peterborough before joining Crawley in May 2012.

"I'm joining a very good club and I'm excited to be here," Jones told BBC Radio Solent. "I can't wait for the season to start now."

Pompey are yet to tie up a deal for fellow keeper Trevor Carson, while John Sullivan has fallen down the pecking order at Fratton Park.

"There was interest from other clubs. I listened to them but Portsmouth felt right, something in my head told me to join Portsmouth," added Jones.

"This is a special club and I am hoping to be part of an amazing journey here."

Meanwhile, the club has also confirmed that defender Bondz N'Gala will not be offered a new Pompey deal.

"We've got four contracted central defenders here and we can't afford to carry a fifth," said manager Andy Awford.

"So we thank Bondz for his services and wish him all the best for the future because he played a big part in keeping us in League Two.

"But never say never. If something happens here and he's still available then you never know."
