Rangers chief executive promises more signings for Ally McCoist

Rangers manager Ally McCoist has only made one summer signing so far.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist has a similar signing budget to last summer and will add more new players soon, according to chief executive Graham Wallace.

McCoist made nine additions to his squad last summer, but only former Scotland striker Kenny Miller has so far been secured this time round.

"We have several other things we are working on," said Wallace.

"So I think the fans can expect to see some further new faces coming to the club in the near future."

Supporters groups concerned about the club's finances have launched protests against the board and Rangers admit that they do not expect as many new additions this summer after winning League One.

"We want to make sure we've got the capability to get the job done next season and get us back in the top division," Wallace told his club website.

"We are constantly looking to improve the calibre of what we've got."

Rangers recognise that 34-year-old Miller's return for a third spell at Ibrox after leaving Vancouver Whitecaps has been questioned by some who would prefer the club to target more youthful signings.

However, Wallace added: "We have been careful to balance the needs of the immediate term so that we're successful in the Championship with the medium-term requirements.

"We're looking at players who will have a part to play next season but who will have a bigger part to play in the seasons to come.

"I'm sure people realise we're building and blending the squad and there's a mixture of needs."

Meanwhile, McCoist has expressed disappointment that 18-year-old midfielder Charlie Telfer decided to sign for Dundee United despite the offer of an extended contract at Ibrox.

"He trained with the squad and came on against Stenhousemuir last season and we feel he is a great prospect," the manager admitted.

"We wanted to keep Charlie, but he obviously decided to turn down the offer that was put to him by the club."

McCoist pointed out that 13 graduates of Rangers' academy had played for the first team at some point last season and argued that this showed their youth policy was working.
