Rowett hopes that Robbie Weir and Damien McCrory will agree new deals "by the end of the week"

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett says he expects to sign at least "a couple" more players for the new season.

The Brewers, who have already signed midfielder John Mousinho and defender George Taft, are in talks with Stevenage forward Lucas Akins.

Rowett told BBC Radio Derby: "We have been in talks with a couple of wide players and we've been in talks with a couple of strikers.

"We are not a million miles away from a couple but I couldn't tell you when."

Rowett also expects midfielders Robbie Weir and Damien McCrory to sign new contracts.

"I think we are very close with Robbie," added Rowett. "I am hoping that will get sorted out this week and Damien also.

"I am hopeful that both by the end of the week will have agreed to stay. I think they both want to stay.

"I think both are seeing that the grass is not always greener and we have a lot to offer at our place."
