Cardiff City have signed midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi from Crystal Palace.

The 29-year-old South African is out of contract and is thought to have turned down a new deal with the Eagles in favour of the Bluebirds, who finished bottom of the Premier League.

He played 26 top-flight matches for Tony Pulis's team last season as they climbed the table to avoid relegation.

Dikgacoi is the fifth player to be signed by Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer.

Solskjaer is looking to build a squad to gain promotion from the Championship at the first attempt.

He has so far invested in three strikers: Adam Le Fondre from Reading, ex-Manchester United forward Federico Macheda and Spaniard Javi Guerra, as well as Austrian midfielder Guido Burgstaller.

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman said on Tuesday that Solskjaer would be backed further in his attempts to bolster the Bluebirds squad and added that the recruitment plans underlined their intent to gain promotion.

City are also expecting approaches for England defender Steven Caulker and Chile midfielder Gary Medel this summer.

Both players are believed to have release clauses in their contracts triggered by the club's relegation to the Championship, although potential buyers would have to meet the Bluebirds' valuation.

Last season's top scorer Fraizer Campbell could also be on his way after Leicester City triggered a release clause in the striker's contract by offering a sum close to £1m.

Campbell scored 16 goals in 52 appearances for Cardiff since signing from Sunderland for £650,000 in January 2013.
