Hearts: Morgaro Gomis ready to help guide club's kids

Morgaro Gomis has picked up two caps for Senegal

Hearts' new signing Morgaro Gomis says he is relishing the challenge of helping the club's crop of youngsters develop their talents.

The 28-year-old became head coach Robbie Neilson's first summer signing when he penned a three-year deal.

"I spoke to the manager and he told me what he wants me to do in the club, like looking after the players," said the former Dundee United midfielder.

"I'm going to do my best for them and I hope the young boys can learn from me."

Gomis, who has twice been capped by Senegal, admitted the chance to team up with Craig Levein again helped sway his decision to sign for the Scottish Championship outfit.

Levein, who is now director of football at Tynecastle, signed the player for Dundee United while boss at Tannadice in 2006.

"It wasn't a hard decision to make to come here," added Gomis on the Edinburgh club's website.

"When I spoke to the manager and Craig Levein, I knew I was going to sign. I spoke to my family and a few people but inside my head, I knew that I was going to come here.

"It feels great to be here. Hopefully it should be a great season for us."

Hearts, who were relegated from Scotland's top flight last term, have also snapped up striker James Keatings from Hamilton and former former Sparta Rotterdam hitman Soufian El Hassnaoui, subject to international clearance.

The Tynecastle club have also tied up teenage winger Sam Nicholson on a new three-year contract after his deal expired.
