Port Vale boss Micky Adams says Premier League side Leicester are interested in signing out-of-contract defender Joe Davis for their development squad.

The 20-year-old made 12 appearances for Vale's first team last season.

"Leicester City have shown an interest in him to be part of him development squad, and I stress development squad," Adams told BBC Radio Stoke.

"There's potential with Joe, and once he's declined his contract with us, we have to do what's best for the club."

He added: "If what's best for the football club is that we get some compensation for losing him then we'll have to take that as well, like we did with Jordan Hugill."

Davis, the son of Crewe manager Steve, came through the Vale youth system and has made a total of 31 appearances for the League One side.

He also spent a short period on loan at Luton last season, making six league appearances for John Still's side.
