Championship side Wigan have signed Newcastle full-back James Tavernier and Osasuna striker Oriol Riera.

The Latics have paid undisclosed fees for Tavernier, 22, and Riera, 27, with both agreeing three-year contracts.

Tavernier made nine appearances for the Magpies and spent most of last season on loan at Rotherham United, helping them to promotion from League One.

He told the club website:, external "I can't wait to put on the Wigan shirt and show the fans and the manager what I can do.

"Hopefully I can help to help get us back where we belong."

Riera scored 13 times in 37 games for Osasuna last season, including both goals in a 2-2 draw against eventual Champions League winners Real Madrid.

Manager Uwe Rosler said: "He is a proven goalscorer. We have got him at the right price and within our current wage structure in the Championship."
