Paul Green: Rotherham sign Republic midfielder after Leeds exit

Green played 14 games during a loan spell at Ipswich last season, scoring twice

Rotherham United have signed Republic of Ireland midfielder Paul Green on a two-year deal, subject to a medical.

Green, who has 20 caps, was released by Leeds United after spending the end of last season on loan at Ipswich.

The 31-year-old is Rotherham's 11th signing since winning promotion via the League One play-offs.

"I was in no doubt that he was someone we wanted here, to the point when I think he was sick of hearing from me," said Millers boss Steve Evans.

"The lad had a magnificent finish to the season with Ipswich Town so it wasn't a surprise to find there was significant interest in him.

"Paul is a full international, he has just returned from an end-of-season trip with Martin O'Neill's Republic of Ireland, so he will be given a few more days to recuperate," Evans told the club website.

Green began his career at nearby Doncaster, where he made 277 appearances and scored 33 goals.

Following a four-year spell with Derby, he returned to Yorkshire with Leeds in June 2012 but admitted in February that he believed his career at Elland Road was over after being allowed to join Ipswich.
