Motherwell: John Sutton reveals trophy aim at Fir Park

John Sutton scored 22 goals for Motherwell last season as his side finished second in the Scottish Premiership

Striker John Sutton says Motherwell are determined to land some silverware this season.

The Steelmen finished runners up in the Scottish Premiership table last term for the second season on the spin.

And Sutton, who scored 22 goals last season, admits landing a trophy is now one of the main aim's for the Fir Park outfit.

"Hopefully this will be our season, that's what everybody at the club wants," Sutton told the 'Well website.

Motherwell crashed out of the League Cup to eventual winners Aberdeen last term after a 2-0 defeat at the quarter-final stage.

And their Scottish Cup campaign ended in the fourth round with a shock 1-0 loss at Albion Rovers.

"Finishing runners-up for the second season in a row was a brilliant achievement, but we were disappointed with our cup performances," added 30-year-old Sutton.

"St Johnstone [Scottish Cup winners] and Aberdeen are good teams but we feel as though we could have done more.

"We had three cracks at it in the cups. The Europa League was tricky and although you've got to credit Albion Rovers in the Scottish Cup, we were extremely disappointed with ourselves.

"Aberdeen did well to win the League Cup but we had a goal disallowed against them in our game that left everyone a little sore.

"With the quality of players we have, you'd think we would get a bit further in the cups or even go all the way and win a trophy."

Sutton has now spent four years at Fir Park over two spells, and admits he is loving life with Stuart McCall's side.

"I feel really settled here," added the Englishman.

"I know players sometimes get stick for showing a lack of loyalty but it's tricky. Every time you have a good season, because of the length of contracts nowadays, you're touted for a move. Then, if you have a bad season, you're out the door.

"Motherwell is a great fit for me, though, it's a great place to work."
