Europa League: Glenavon 2-3 Hafnarfjordur (agg 2-6)

Glenavon restored some pride by scoring two second-half goals in their 3-2 Europa League second leg defeat by Icelandic outfit Hafnarfjordur.

Trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Glenavon went in 2-0 down at half-time thanks to Ingimundur Niels Oskarsson and Kristian Gauti Emilsson strikes.

Kevin Braniff scored with a neat finish on 58 minutes and Eoin Bradley poked the ball into the empty net after 60.

Emilsson scored the winner on the night from the penalty spot after 69 minutes.

Oskarsson tapped in the visitors' opener in the third minute after Kris Lindsay and Kyle Neill failed to cut out a cross.

Emilsson added the second on the half-volley and then Lurgan Blues player-manager Gary Hamilton missed a good chance when he fired over the bar from close range.

Braniff executed a fine finish from the edge of the box from Ciaran Martyn's nod down and then Bradley rounded the keeper and slotted home two minutes later.

Emilsson made no mistake from the spot after he had been brought down by Conor Dillon inside the area.

Bradley fired a shot off the post and fired the rebound straight at the keeper while Conor Dillon also hit the woodwork.

Glenavon manager Gary Hamilton:

"We started slowly but I thought we were still in the game at 2-0 down. We didn't know when we were beaten and all the boys put in a really good effort - that's all I can ask of them.

"We struck the woodwork twice, had some good chances and could have had a penalty too.

"The delay in travelling for the first leg was a big setback and it proved too big a mountain to climb."
