Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray praised his side's defensive effort in their 1-0 League Cup win over Burnley.

The Owls progressed to the third round of the competition thanks to Atdhe Nuhiu's second-half penalty.

"I thought we defended our box really well, it was a fantastic team performance," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I thought the back four and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland behind them were all very good."

He added: "We don't fear anybody and we're full of confidence at the moment.

"We look a good, solid side and the team spirit is fantastic as well. The players deserve this."

Wednesday have made a strong start to the Championship season, with two wins and two draws from their opening four league matches.

Despite the club's protracted takeover by Azerbaijani businessman Hafiz Mammadov still being delayed, Gray is confident of adding to his squad in the coming days.

"There are calls out there so I hope to bring somebody in before Saturday," he said.

"Hopefully we can get some people in before the window shuts but if not the loan window re-opens a week later.

"It's plain to see we need another wide player in and another forward."

Gray's side host the Championship's early pace-setters Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
