Crystal Palace have broken their transfer record by spending £7m to make Wigan midfielder James McArthur one of three deadline-day signings.

The 26-year-old looked set to join Leicester City last week, but the Foxes pulled out of the deal after signing Esteban Cambiasso instead.

Wigan were hoping to keep hold of McArthur, but he was keen on a return to the Premier League.

Palace also signed Wolves striker Kevin Doyle and Spurs defender Zeki Fryers.

Republic of Ireland international Doyle, 30, has joined on loan until January while former Manchester United youngster Fryers has moved for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old, who made 16 appearances for Spurs after joining the club for a reported £3m in January 2013, has signed a three-year contract.

McArthur, meanwhile, joined Wigan from Hamilton Academical for £500,000 in 2010 and won the FA Cup with the Latics in 2013, although they were relegated to the Championship the same season.

He made 129 league appearances for Wigan, scoring 11 goals, and has 15 caps and one goal for Scotland.

Former Reading striker Doyle ended last season on loan at QPR while his parent club were gaining promotion back into the Championship.

Palace, under new manager Neil Warnock, re-signed winger Wilfried Zaha from Manchester United on a season-long loan on Thursday.
