James McArthur: Leicester move for Wigan midfielder collapses

James McArthur's proposed move from Wigan to Leicester is off, says Latics manager Uwe Rosler, who is unsure of the Scotland midfielder's future.

Wigan had accepted an offer, believed to be around £7m, for the 26-year-old but Rosler claims the two clubs did not agree the pay structure of the deal.

Rosler said he felt McArthur had been "used" and "left in limbo".

The German told BBC Radio 5 live: "He had already said goodbye to everybody at the club."

Despite the collapse of McArthur's move to the Foxes, it is believed other clubs are interested in signing the player before Monday's transfer deadline.

Leicester's initial bid of around £5m was rejected, although Wigan chairman Dave Whelan told BBC Radio Leicester he would be prepared to sell the player for the right price.

After having a second offer accepted, the Foxes then completed the signing of Argentina international midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.

"The chairman made a decision to accept a bid from Leicester in terms of valuation but we didn't accept the pay structure," said Rosler. "Then Leicester left James McArthur in limbo.

"It's very difficult for us to understand. I feel sorry for James. I think James got used in a way. We and James have to live with that. Now we have to make sure we get James right again."

Rosler has said he will hold talks with former Hamilton player McArthur, who trained with Wigan on Friday and could possibly be involved in their Championship fixture against Birmingham on Saturday.

The ex-Brentford manager continued: "As we all know, James is a fantastic professional and a fantastic person.

"I told him that I would never have sold him, but we came to a level where the chairman made a decision.

"He knows what his strengths are and his strength is to be 110% professional. We all expect him to be the same person as he was two days ago."

Meanwhile, Wigan's move for Brentford midfielder Adam Forshaw has been delayed because of an administrative issue but Rosler is hopeful the deal will be completed.

The two clubs agreed a fee for the 22-year-old earlier this week.
