Mansfield Town have signed striker Rakish Bingham, who was released by Wigan Athletic in the summer.

The 20-year-old has been training with the Stags and could make his debut in Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy match with Notts County.

Bingham told the club website:, external "It's a little bit nervy to be signing on transfer deadline day.

"I'm used to being at home watching it on TV and it's the first time I've been involved in it, so it's exciting."

Bingham never made a first-team appearance for Wigan and spent part of last season on loan at Falkirk.

After leaving the Championship club at the end of last season, Bingham had a pre-season trial with Bournemouth.

He added: "I'm a striker, so scoring goals is what I hope to do. That's my plan. I'm over the moon to be signing for the Stags."
