Byron Lawrence: Colchester United sign Ipswich midfielder

Lawrence made his only first-team appearance for Ipswich as a 79th-minute substitute against Doncaster in 2012

Colchester United have signed young midfielder Byron Lawrence on a one-year deal after he was released by Ipswich.

The 18-year-old has already featured for the U's Under-21 side and is new boss Tony Humes' first signing.

Lawrence came through the youth academy at Ipswich but only made one first-team appearance in his time at the club.

Humes told the club website: "I think this is further evidence of how we're trying to bring exciting young talent into the club."
