Norwich move two points clear of Nottingham Forest

Cameron Jerome scored a second-half brace as Norwich moved to the top of the Championship with a 3-0 win at Brentford.

The Canaries survived early pressure before Alexander Tettey gave the visitors a 68th-minute lead.

Jerome headed in the second seven minutes later, then unleashed a fierce 25-yard shot to seal the victory.

The win moves Neil Adams' side two points ahead of Nottingham Forest, who play Fulham on Wednesday.

Newly-promoted Brentford would have gone above Norwich with a victory and could have been well ahead after a one-sided first half.

Bees striker Andre Gray missed a hat-trick of first-half chances.

Gray, who was playing in the Conference this time last year, was inches away from touching Stuart Dallas' cross into an empty net, then fired inches wide and had a third effort deflected past a post by defender Jos Hooiveld.

However, the Canaries held out until half-time and then Tettey capitalised on a defensive lapse to swing the momentum in his side's favour.

Bees defender James Tarkowski was caught in possession in his own half and Wes Hoolahan laid the ball across for Tettey to slot home.

Then, with Brentford complaining they had not been given a penalty when Hooiveld appeared to foul Alex Pritchard in the area, Norwich broke away and Jerome launched himself to head in Steven Whittaker's cross.

The former Stoke City striker stylishly secured the three points in the 83rd minute when he rifled in the third.

Norwich, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have now won six of their last seven games in all competitions, drawing the other.

Their only defeat this term was 1-0 at Wolves in the Championship on 10 August.

Norwich manager Neil Adams:

"It's a bit unfair on Brentford, it looks like they've been battered but it was a lot closer than that.

"You don't get anything in September but if you ask me where I'd rather be, it's at the top."

Brentford boss Mark Warburton:

"From 15 minutes onwards we were very good and John Ruddy was the busier of the two keepers. We should have been ahead at half-time.

"When Alex Pritchard goes down in the final third am I the only one who thought that was a penalty? Maybe I should go to Specsavers if I am."
