Midfielder Darren Ambrose has signed for a third spell at Ipswich Town after agreeing a contract until January.

The 30-year-old started his career at Portman Road, playing 38 times between 2001 and 2003.

After spells with Newcastle and Charlton, he returned on loan in the 2008-09 season and has signed his latest Town deal following his release by Birmingham City in the summer.

He had spent the last three weeks training with Mick McCarthy's side.

Ambrose played just 10 times during two seasons at Birmingham and ended his time at St Andrews with a loan move to Greek team Apollon Smyrni.

The most fruitful period of his career came at Crystal Palace between 2009 and 2012, where he scored 29 goals in 110 league games.
