Liverpool 1-1 Everton: Brendan Rodgers says Reds dominated

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers felt his side "did not get what they deserved" from Saturday's Merseyside derby after Phil Jagielka's spectacular late strike earned Everton a 1-1 draw.

The Reds led through Steven Gerrard's free-kick and were on top until Jagielka replied in injury time.

"We were very clearly the better side," Rodgers said.

"Everton had virtually nothing in attack. To concede a goal like that so late on is obviously frustrating."

Liverpool have now won just one of their last five Premier League games and Rodgers was left to rue missed chances and what he felt was a blatant penalty for a Gareth Barry handball.

However, he believed his side showed improved form.

"We could have been at least 2-0 up by the time Everton scored," he added.

"Mario Balotelli should have scored after a great run and cross by Raheem Sterling and we definitely should have had a penalty in the first half.

"The ball was shot into the box by Sterling and Barry grabbed it with both hands. That was nearly a save.

"I never felt in any danger in the game. For 91 minutes of the game we were excellent, so I am not going to let the result disappoint me.

"It is the performance I am looking at, which was was at a much better level than where we have been."

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez hailed Jagielka's strike and felt his side were much improved at the back after conceding 13 goals in their first five league games.

"I don't think I've seen a better strike in live football," Martinez said. "It had to be incredible to go in the top corner, and it was.

"On the ball, we were not good enough but we showed a great defensive intensity. We showed incredible belief and character and we got our reward."
