St Johnstone will hand a trial to a striker next week after drawing a blank in a 2-0 defeat by Dundee United.

Saints have been searching for cover after Steven MacLean was ruled out for up to six months through injury.

"We've got somebody coming in on trial next week and anybody we get is going to be a risk," said Wright.

"They are out of contract, hopefully not too far out of condition, but that's how we bring people in and assess them."

Wright had to do without on-loan forward Brian Graham as the Dundee United man was ineligible against his parent club.

ork that little bit harder."

Wright thought his team had only themselves to blame for losing at Tannadice as United went two points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

"I think we've contributed to our own downfall," he said. "They were poor goals to lose and individual errors are being punished.
