Kevin Nugent: Leyton Orient job would 'excite' caretaker manager

Leyton Orient caretaker manager Kevin Nugent would be interested in taking on the job full-time.

The 45-year-old was in charge of the O's on Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 at home by 10-man Rochdale.

"It is something that would certainly excite me but we'll have to wait and see," he told BBC London 94.9.

"I've worked here a long time and I've done the youth team, scouting and all sorts. They will probably change the role to head coach."

He added: "I'm sure there will be people interested as it's a fantastic job for anyone."

Orient are without a manager following Russell Slade's resignation on Wednesday, which came after the League One club turned down an approach from Cardiff City for his services.

But Slade, who had been Orient boss since April 2010, is yet to be officially appointed by the Bluebirds because of a contractual dispute with the O's, with City owner Vincent Tan describing the 53-year-old as helping the club with "consultancy".

Nugent began his playing career with Orient and made over 150 appearances for the club during two spells in east London.

He returned to Brisbane Road in 2007 as youth team manager and was then named assistant manager in 2009.

Nugent has previously been caretaker at Orient twice; for a four-game spell in 2009 and then one match before Slade's appointment.

"It's slightly strange but you come in, do the job and hopefully do your best while you're there," Nugent said.

"It's three times at Leyton Orient now and once at Swansea as well so we'll see what happens."

Meanwhile, Orient have confirmed midfielder Lloyd James suffered a broken leg in Saturday's defeat.
