Cardiff City 'low on confidence', says Scott Young

Cardiff's new manager will inherit a squad low on confidence, according to joint caretaker boss Scott Young.

Former Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade saw the Bluebirds lose 1-0 at previously winless Blackpool on Friday and is expected to join the club soon.

"Obviously [Cardiff's] players are low on confidence," said Young.

"It's going to take time to get that back to where they should be. But the only way we can do that is on the training ground and working hard."

Francois Zoko drilled home for the hosts in the 64th minute to leave the pre-season favourites for promotion with four defeats, four draws and three wins in the Championship.

The Bluebirds hope Slade's appointment will go ahead during the forthcoming international break but remain in dispute with Orient over his proposed move.

They resume league action on Saturday, 18 October against Nottingham Forest at Cardiff City Stadium.

Young says if he and Danny Gabbidon are no longer in charge, the defeat at Blackpool was "not the way" they wanted to go out.

"We've worked hard over the last two weeks; myself, Dan, all the staff we've brought with us and the players as well. They've been magnificent," said Young.

"Tonight we've probably let ourselves down a bit in terms of the result and the performance.

"But we'll bounce back. We're still not even a quarter of the season through and there's lots of games to be played."

Gabbidon believes Slade's experience can prompt a revival in the club's fortunes.

"There's small things that you need to do to win games: our game management has to be better, our decision-making is at times not good enough," he said.

"I don't think there's too much that needs to change.

"And hopefully the next couple of weeks the manager can come in with his experience and put his points across and hopefully we'll be ready for the Forest game."
