Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez has signed a new long-term contract with the Championship club.

The 17-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at The Valley, which will run until summer 2017, with the option for a further 12 months.

Gomez came through Charlton's youth academy and made his first-team debut in the League Cup in August.

Already an England Under-19 international, Gomez has made a total of five appearances for the Addicks.

"I'm happy that it's done and that I can push on now," he told the club website., external

"It's a relief because the intention was to get it done as quickly as possible.

"It's nice that the young players here are being given a chance to play, that's obviously exciting for us and it was a big incentive to sign."
