Karim Benzema's third-minute strike was France's fastest goal in a game since October 2006

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema scored one goal and set up another as France beat Portugal in a friendly at the Stade de France.

Benzema opened the scoring early on from close range, before setting up Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba to finish from the edge of the area.

Ricardo Quaresma grabbed a late penalty for the away side as a consolation.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted late before having an ice pack put on his knee.

The Real Madrid forward was subdued in the first half, and did not really threaten until early in the second period when his deft header was kept out by the fingers of France goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

As hosts, France qualify automatically for Euro 2016, but are playing against all the teams in qualifying Group I in friendlies as preparation for next year's tournament.

Portugal, meanwhile, lost their first qualifier 1-0 at home to Albania in September.
