Goals from Chris Whelpdale and Charlie Lee helped Stevenage leapfrog Accrington in the League Two table.

Whelpdale put the hosts ahead in the opening minute with a tap-in after Stanley's debutant keeper Jesse Joronen made a hash of a punched clearance.

Lee Molyneux equalised in the 19th minute, cutting in from the left and firing low into the bottom corner.

Lee scored the winner shortly after the break with a rising drive into the top corner from Chris Beardsley's lay-off.

Stevenage manager Graham Westley told BBC Three Counties Radio:

Stevenage boss Graham Westley on Accrington win

"We weren't fantastic. I don't think anyone will go away and say that was an exceptional performance.

"The crowd were quiet and the atmosphere was very subdued.

"I think we showed grit and determination, the back four was solid enough over the 90 minutes, we didn't give too many defensive errors.

"It's not easy to get that fluidity and that fluency and that organisation that you need to consistently win. To be where we are is a fair reflection of what we've done this season."
