Oldham Athletic stretched their unbeaten run to 12 games with a comfortable win over Coventry City.

Danny Philliskirk fired in from the edge of the area for the Latics before top scorer Jonathan Forte slotted home.

James Maddison's deflected free-kick reduced the Sky Blues' deficit to 2-1 but Forte latched onto Jabo Ibehre's flick for his 10th goal of the season.

Coventry's Shaun Miller hit the post before Ibehre's close-range header sealed Oldham's best win of the season.

Dark times for Sky Blues

Coventry's defeat was their heaviest since losing 5-1 'at home' to Tranmere Rovers at Sixfields on 23 November 2013.

On a bitterly cold evening, the home side were dominant throughout as they climbed to eighth in League One, just a point shy of the play-off zone.

Their three first-half goals proved reward for some high-tempo attacking play against a Coventry side who struggled to create chances.

Steven Pressley's side have now lost six of their last seven League One games to slump to 20th in the table, kept out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Sky Blues manager Steven Pressley told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"I don't want to come out and criticise the players too much as, just now, they're very fragile and it's very difficult.

"But, if you lose the goals we are at the moment, it gives you no chance. You've got to win your personal battles and accept the responsibility.

"It was very evident in our performance that we're lacking a lot of confidence. We tried to work our way into the game but we went behind to a sloppy goal.

"This is a really, really tough time for me, the players and the club but one thing is for sure, I'm ready for the fight."
