Matt Taylor: Cheltenham Town captain ruled out for a month

Cheltenham Town captain Matt Taylor has been ruled out for a month with the hamstring injury he picked up in Saturday's 3-2 win over Northampton.

The 32-year-old defender, who is in his first season at the League Two club, was forced off after 26 minutes against the Cobblers.

"It's going to be three to four weeks," manager Mark Yates confirmed to BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"We'll just have to hope he's back sooner rather than later."

Yates continued: "He's been brilliant since he's been here but now it gives someone else a chance."

Birmingham loanee Jack Deaman was brought on in place of Taylor during Saturday's win - Cheltenham's first in the league since 30 August - while player-coach Steve Elliott and goalkeeper Trevor Carson both had spells wearing the captain's armband.

"I wasn't even sure who had the armband on Saturday, it's not a big thing for me," added the Robins boss.

"I'd give it to Trevor, for sure, but I've got plenty of them out there who would gladly wear it. The more the better."
