Jersey football boss Jimmy Reilly open to selecting new players

Former Jersey striker Jimmy Reilly's last managerial role was at Trinity

Jersey manager Jimmy Reilly says the door is open for anyone to make it into his island football side.

The new Jersey boss, who after Craig Culkin quit in May, has two friendlies with 26th Army Regiment this week.

"It's a good opportunity for the players and myself to have a look at them and show me what they can do," Reilly told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It's open at the moment and anybody can get in the Jersey team."

There are two different squads for the matches on Monday and Wednesday evening at Les Quennevais, but Daryl Wilson, Ben Gallichan, Jay Giles and Michael Weir are among those who have recently made appearances for Jersey to miss out.

"The aim is to get a competitive team together," added Reilly, who is in charge of a Jersey side who were trounced 4-1 at home by big rivals Guernsey in the Muratti and who have no regular programme of games.

"We've got the Muratti coming up and the Island Games next year and I think it's positive times for players and the coaching staff," he added.

"We want to do as well as we can and hopefully we'll be competitive in the Muratti and the Island Games."
