Carlisle striker Stephen Elliott will have an operation after scans revealed he ruptured his Achilles tendon in the 2-1 win over Oxford United on Saturday.

He was stretchered off an hour into what was his fourth Carlisle start.

The 30-year-old joined the League Two side in August having not played a competitive game since February 2013, and been without a club for 13 months.

In an 11-year career, Elliot has won nine Republic of Ireland caps and scored 54 goals in 293 club matches.
