Birmingham City have signed Charlton Athletic defender Michael Morrison on a two-month emergency loan deal.

The 26-year-old centre-half, who can also play at right-back, becomes new Blues boss Gary Rowett's first signing.

He is expected to go straight into the City squad for Saturday's West Midlands derby with Wolves at Molineux.

Morrison signed a new two-year contract with the Addicks this summer but has remained largely out of favour under Charlton boss Bob Peeters this term.

Rowett told BBC WM 95.6 at Friday morning's pre-match press conference: "If there's areas we feel we need to improve in or strengthen, then we need to make those changes as quickly as we see fit."

Morrison joins a City team still reeling from last weekend's 8-0 record home defeat by Bournemouth.

Suffolk-born Morrison, who joined Charlton in the summer of 2011,, external has made 146 appearances for the south-east London club, having previously played for Cambridge United, Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday.
