Northampton Town 0-0 Rochdale

Mid-table League Two side Northampton Town shared an FA Cup first round goalless draw with League One high fliers Rochdale at Sixfields.

But Dale may be the happier of the two sides to book a Spotland replay after playing most of the tie with 10 men.

Former Cobblers striker Ian Henderson got a straight red card in the 16th minute for kicking out at Ben Tozer.

Even a man short, Dale went close through Matt Lund and Matt Done but the Cobblers did have chances.

Ivan Toney had a couple of headed chances before firing over the bar from close range following an excellent cross from Kaid Mohamed.

But the visitors went closest when Ashley Eastham's header hit the post in the final minute of normal time.

The two sides will meet at Spotland for the replay on 18th November 19.45 GMT.

Northampton Town assistant manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Northampton:

"It's difficult playing against 10 men, especially against a side like Rochdale who can counter-attack.

"I thought Stewart Murdoch was excellent in midfield, and it's always good to get a clean sheet. That's two in a row, after a long time without one.

"We had a real chance today to go through, but I think we'll learn from today's performance ahead of the replay."

Rochdale manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Manchester:

"I'm happy with the draw considering the situation we were in after 15 minutes.

"I think we could quite easily have walked away from here having won the game.

"I think we dominated in the first half with 10 men"
