Crawley Town ended a week in which five players were placed on the transfer list by fighting back to earn a draw at Oldham Athletic in League One.

Midfielder Daniel Johnson, making his debut after joining on loan from Aston Villa, cut through the visiting defence to fire Oldham in front from 10 yards.

But Gwion Edwards equalised just before the break with a fine 25-yard drive.

The Latics went closest to a winner but Mike Jones was twice denied by Crawley keeper Jamie Ashdown.

Oldham manager Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Manchester:

"Their goal was a comedy of errors, I mean Timothee Dieng started it off by passing it back to the keeper when we had options to play the ball.

"I think it's the standards we have set ourselves in one respect, I think it was a bit flat today.

"We know where we are, we know that we're a work in progress, we know that's not good enough with the standards we've set ourselves and we've got to dust ourselves off."

Crawley Town assistant manager Paul Groves told BBC Surrey:

"It was important that we bounced back in some way, shape or form and to come here and get something against a team that are in form was always going to difficult, but the lads showed great spirit and togetherness to come away with something.

"We had to make sure defensively we were organised, solid and difficult to break down and we came up with a fantastic strike from Gwion (Edwards).

"It was important in the second half, when got ourselves level, that we made sure we stayed in contention.

"There's one or two hurting in terms of the results and the performances, so as a group today we made sure we came here and gave absolutely everything."
